Follow your feet this summer into Orewa’s biggest weekly run event

Looking for a weekly running event to keep fit or train for your first half marathon? Want to add some fun and variety to your exercise regime? Then we have the beach run options that you’re after…

The G.J. Gardner. Homes Orewa Beach Series offers a fantastic opportunity to keep motivated and living the healthy lifestyle you desire. Line up beside family and friends and take on your challenge this summer!

Event Distances

  • 2.5km Junior Run (12yrs and under)
  • 5km Beach Walk
  • 5km Beach Run
  • 8km Beach Run

Our Beach Runs take you the full length of the beautiful Orewa Beach (tide permitting!). Running on sand sure builds leg strength, which makes these events great training for your next 10km or half marathon road race. If you’re just starting out on your exercise journey, start off with the 5km walk and watch your fitness improve week by week.

Series Competition

You will be eligible for Overall and Age Category medals if you participate in a minimum of 7 events in one event distance. Step-up mid season to complete 7 events in a new distance, and you’ll be eligible for medals in BOTH!

Whether you’re a competitive runner or simply out for some social, physical activity, come along and run at your own pace. Why not start with 5km walk and build to a full 5km run? Entry Pass Options

You can choose to purchase a single event pass, or 6,10 or 14 event series pass – the more events you sign up for, the cheaper the price per event!

New to Running?

If you’re new to running then you’ll soon know that the hardest part of getting motivated is getting out the door. That’s where we come in – you’ll have a weekly commitment that you can’t back out of! Use your weekly timed results to track your progress and as you see those times improve, your motivation will grow with them. The 5km beach run is a run or walk event and suits all ages and abilities. The challenging 8km event is run only and the perfect 10km or half marathon training event. And of course, our crew will be there to cheer you on and get you through that last hundred meters!

Event Safety and Rules

  • The full Event Rules and Safety Guidelines can be found HERE and at the event base each week
  • Shoes are optional for the 5km and 8km Beach Run
  • If the weather forecast or wave height is outside our safety parameters, the event may instead be held at Stanmore Bay
  • For your safety is is compulsory for all participants to attend their event briefing each week. Briefings are held at Event Base in the Orewa Beach Reserve, with Junior briefing at 5.45pm and Adult briefing at 6.20pm
  • All participants must be wearing either a series or on-the-day timing transponder before heading down the start shoot
  • It is compulsory for all participants to read and accept our Terms & Conditions and Waiver. These will be included in your online entry, but can also be found HERE.

Maps

It is important that participants check their course map on the event base info board prior to the start of each event as the tide height may cause on the day adjustments.

Any adjustments to the course will be explained at the Event Safety Briefings, however, to better understand these adjustments, please ensure you have already familiarised yourself with the course map. If you are unsure please ask one of the Beach Series crew before your safety briefing.

Event Dates and Timetable

The Beach Series runs for 14 weeks over summer and is held on Thursday evenings, at Orewa Beach. Our first event of the season is always held on a Sunday, to allow more of the Orewa community to get involved. For a full list of the dates, and the event day timetable, click HERE.
